USA : ‘Ultra Thin’ instantaneously becomes treasured piece of history

February 19, 2008

Omega announced that it will honor the legacy of one of our country's most beloved leaders, President John F. Kennedy, with the launch of a limited-edition timepiece. The original is a treasured piece of history and is currently housed in the Omega Museum in Biel, Switzerland.

It served as a model for this special release and will be virtually identical to the "Ultra Thin" Omega that Kennedy wore during his January 20, 1961 inauguration and throughout much of his presidency.

Omega will limit production to 261 numbered commemorative timepieces which will be available for purchase in spring of 2008.

They will feature the same 18-karat gold casing and black leather strap as the original, as well as the gold stamp of the word "Omega" and the company's symbol, features all borne by the original.

Each wristwatch will retail for $8,250 and will be available for purchase in time for Father's Day. They would make perfect gifts both for Omega enthusiasts and for fans of John F. Kennedy.

John F. Kennedy received the original timepiece as a gift from his friend Grant Stockdale in 1960, prior to his presidency.

However, the insightful inscription read "President of the United States John F. Kennedy from his friend Grant." The Omega "Ultra Thin" timepiece instantaneously became a treasured piece of history.

Jacqueline Kennedy wrote Stockdale to express her deepest thanks for this "thinnest most elegant wristwatch."

On November 9, 1960, at 43 years of age, Kennedy became the youngest man ever elected to the office of President of the United States of America.
